"300" and Greek History

Hi all, I'm no Greek historian, but it occurs to me that the real Spartans may not have fought giants, werewolves, elephants, rhinos, mutants and daemons of Nurgle. Of course, history would be much more interesting if they did, I just wondered if anyone else gets morally outraged by inaccuracies in modern cinema.

I too get frustrated at times by the way "hollywood" puts fringe on some of them. Gladiator is one that also had some historical mess ups. Another is Braveheart, which made second on a list of "most historically inaccurate movies" Though I enjoyed both those films I must say I prefer them to be more factual. I'm with ya on this point.

Cant say Im bothered tbh ..Films are for entertainment value ..If I want to be educated I watch documentaries ..I loved Gladiator and even tho it wasnt accurate in certain aspects ,it didnt spoil it for me ..Things in life arent always how we,d like them to be .Its not good for your inner self ,to be so critical with everything ..Sue

I guess if i take my argument to logical extremes I will end up criticising Bugsy Malone, given that people in the 20s didn't have bicycle-powered cars and it was customary to conduct criminal business as an adult, not while you are in junior school.

Has anyone got any observations avout films that have entertainment value because they get it so wrong? Prince of Theives is one of my all-time favourite films, but I am not sure anyone involved with its production had ever heard of Robin Hood. I'm not arguing that there was a Turkish warrior, a witch (who is the Sheriff's mum), Satan worship, American accents for characters who came from Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire in the 1100s, plus a cut scene where the Sheriff eats raw human flesh. I just don't know if the original author is still revolving in his grave!
