I have been assigned to a NHS womens only mental health group. I am going to see the counsellor for my first assessment in two weeks. Now because this is the NHS, they cannot provide individual counseling but instead if I am deemed suitable I am going to be directed to group therapy. Does this even work? From the leaflet it sounds like the groups are mixed of all issues from rape victims and domestic abuse victims to people like me just with depression/anxiety! The wideness of the group does worry me I have to admit. Also the thought of sharing with a group is frightening! The internet is anonymous and ok but sitting in a group talking to strangers is something else! I struggled with weight watcher group sessions and that was only talking about eating habits!

So does (mixed) group therapy work for people like me with anxiety?
