This is a great thread Yvonne. I love a good riddle or lateral thinking question.

I'll start with an easy one.
Jim Jones was driving home in his car, with his son Robert in the passenger seat. The car was involved in a crash with a lorry and Jim was killed outright. Robert was seriously injured and taken to hospital in an ambulance. In the operating theatre, the surgeon looked at Robert and said "I'm sorry, but I can't operate on this patient - he is my son, Robert."

What is the explanation?
