is drinking stopping my meds working?help

hi,
not been on here for ages as citalopram have been my godsend,too good actually,my HA dissapeared,ended up smoking againive always been a drinker but over past 6 months ive been starting earlier and earlier!! my depression bad,so i drink! i know its a catch 22 situation,im desparate to quit the fags and the booze so the cit can start working again,plus lost all my self confidence gone due to putting on loads of cider weight!!! ne advice please xx

Im no expert but the alcohol probably is making the Citalopram become ineffective. Maybe cut down and just have a couple of drinks on the weekend and if possible stop completely while your on the medication.

How long after you started taking Citalopram did it take to kick in for you by the way?

Yes it does, apparently alcohol will block the citalopram from working properly, if you are drinking often, its possible it isn't actually getting the chance to work. Plus drinking generally isn't good for anxiety ( hangovers plus non working meds aren't the best mix )
