Not being able to burp

This seems to silly to most people, even my GP however it's not funny and causes pain. I have never ever been able to burp. I think that's maybe why I get so bloated in the tummy area. Most people get bloated, burp a little and that helps. I get bloated and have to wait for the gas to travel downwards which obviously takes a lot of time.

Does anyone have any ideas about why this is or what I can do about it?

One thing you could do is try to gag the air up. But without actually being sick.

Was this always a problem, if not it could be worth investigating.

My son (age 35) has the same problem!
His GP didn't seem interested but, as you say, it's a painful condition and his stomach makes some very strange noises! I feel really sorry for him.
I don't get it cause I could 'burp' him as a baby but he's never burped now for years.

Hi, I saw this thread and had to respond. My fiance had this issue until this past year. I remember thinking it was soooo odd, he would be unable to burp and his chest would get really painful and his stomach. He would tell me that he just needs to burp and can't, and I had so much trouble understanding what he meant. Well, he finally can burp now and I wish he still couldn't (haha!) because now he burps all the time! I honestly don't know why he can now though, and I wish I did. He started to be able to when he changed his work schedule to overnights. I don't know why or what happened, but something made him start burping again.

I wish I could be of more help, but maybe yours will spontaneously go away like his did!

I've never been able to burp either so I know what it's like.
