First Mammogram

It will be two weeks on Friday and still no result. Is this normal? I have thrown away the letter as I thought the result would come through straight away. Does anyone know? EJ

This might seem a silly question but it is a serious one.

Why is there no breast cancer screening program for men?

I know the incidence rate is a lot lower or is this because there are no tests done before men get it and often then it is too late?

Dear Fozzie I'm fifty one so eligible for routine screening for breast cancer. Sadly my nephew has breast cancer at the moment. He is very unwell and has had chemo. He is only thirty. EJ

Thanks Magic. I'm not sure if he will recover. He is having chemo to shrink the tumours but the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes, kidneys. Then the surgeon might operate. He has not been well enough up to then. He is a lovely man a family man and they have a young daughter with her own serious health problems. They are buying a house and planning for the future whatever that might bring. EJ

Pleased your results are normal. Really sorry to hear about your nephew. I don't know why they only do breast screening from the age of 50 (I had to go on my 50th birthday). I don't know how they would test it on a man, I guess a scan rather than a mammogram but yes good point Gordon.

My nephew has a lot of breast tissue but then men are not taught to check their breasts like women do. I don't know what the outcome will be for JP but I'm pleased that mine was normal. EJ

Dear Fozzy he had visible lumps so went to his GP.EJ

so pleased your results came back normal, my mums came back abnormal on sat and we had an agonising 5 day wait to find out it was only a cluster of cysts, so sorry to read about your nephew xx
