    Start/Stopping

I was diagnosed with mild depression some 12 months ago and I've been on various AD's over this period, started on cit for 3 weeks started to feel better then stopped (foolish!) as I didnt want to be on pills.

After a few weeks the depression started to come back and I was referred to a specialist who put me on Mirtazipine which I was on for 2-3 months and was awful (high anxiety etc). I then went back on to citalopram for a few weeks along with fluoxitine and started to feel 'normal' again so stopped virtually cold turkey and the depression hit me really hard not that long after so the doc put me on cit again at a higher dose (40mg). Didnt get much better so changed to venoflaxidine which didnt agree with me at all so went back on Cit at 40mg. Side effects were awful so cut down to 20mg, after 2/3 weeks was recommended to go back up to 30mg which I was on until last Monday when I still wasnt feeling much effect after being on them for 8 weeks this time so doc thought another go on venoflaxidine which lasted 3 days as I couldnt cope with the anxiety and kept breaking down in tears at work

Question I have, does the stop/starting have an effectiveness of the Cit and can/does it work 2nd or 3rd time around?

    Re: Start/Stopping

Cit' has worked very well for me three separate times now. This is for anxiety though and the effects on depression have been much milder.

I remember that around 5 years ago I mentioned this to my Doc' and she recommended Prozac to treat the depression after I had been on Cit' a while and my anxiety was OK?

I know most of these pills are SSRI's and all work on the Serotonin but as to whether one type are better at treating depression over another I am not sure and to be honest I can't remember if I felt happier on Prozac over Cit?

    Steve.
