Occult blood - looking for happy stories :)

    Hi there:

I'm a 34 year old male, and have had IBS like symptoms for a long time (at least 7 years I'd guess). I recently started urinating frequently, and mentioned my IBS suspicion to the DR again. She sent me for a fecal test, and it was positive for occult blood. So now I'm freaking out.

I have a history of external hemroids, and the IBS symptoms were so bad the few days before - that there was some blood on the toilet paper when wiping (blood was not visibly mixed in stool). I'm hoping that triggered the positive?

Anyone else experienced a positive fecal occult blood test? And have positive stories to share? Reasons why I shouldn't freak out?

I'm looking for any positives to help me through this.

    thank you

No but my dad has. He has a history of IBS and when he found some blood he got a colonoscopy done and only found some inflammation. He too has haemroids. I would try not to worry about it too much as it can be many different reasons and most are not serious especially with a history of IBS and haemroids as there is bound to be some inflammation somewhere in your bowels to be causing it.

    All the best aye.

I had a positive FOB test last year, went for a colonoscopy and they couldn't find a cause but removed a small polyp anyway.
It does sound that it's likely to be positive because of the flare up of your IBS, espeicially as you saw blood at that time.
Have you spoken to your doc about what the cause could be and how they will investigate it further if necessary?

Thank you both - I appreciate the positive stories

I didn't get a chance to talk to my Doc, as she was on holidays when the results came back :(

I was going to be referred to a specialist anyway (because of the IBS suspicion)... but perhaps the result got me in quicker? I see the specialist next week.

Thinking positive thoughts... my anxiety is brutal at the best of times :(

How did the testing go with the specialist?

All was good, he suspected the hemroid triggered the result, but did a colonoscopy anyways, and it turned out fine

    Thats really good news
I got a positive from that test to last week. Kinda worried, I've been diagnosed with internal hemroids, and they found one polyp non cancerous on colonoscopy 2 hears ago. Im hoping it was the Pyles that set off the positive for me.

Positive thoughts, I'm not a professional, but sounds like a logical reason

Yeah thanks for the positive vibe. I. Always tend to think the worst case scenario.
