What if I'm Right about my Worries?

Does anyone else just stop for a second and think to themselves:

What if I don't really have anxiety and actually I'm just right about this stuff I'm worried about? What if everyone else is wrong? What if the doctor was wrong and I really do have something to worry about when it comes to X or Y? What if someone is lying to me about all this just to placate me?

I'm going round in circles today. I'm at work and I can't concentrate on anything because I can't make my wee head settle down.

All the time Carina. I have a scan on Tuesday for a genuine concern but I've had anxiety problems since Feb. This started very suddenly and I've now started thinking what if all those anxiety symptoms weren't anxiety at all and it was an early sign of the thing I'm having my scan for. It's irrational thinking. I don't think a doctor would lie to you - it really wouldn't be in their best interest to do that. Anxiety is very clever at making you feel 'ill' when in reality you are perfectly healthy. It's being doing it to me on/off for 9 months! xx

    Hi Carina,

It's possible that your doctors are wrong, but it's much less likely that they are actively lying to you.

As always, try to find a doctor who listens who you feel you can trust.

You are not wrong, anxiety can be mistaken for other health problems initially, but doctors and specialists rarely make an incorrect diagnosis. You have to accept it and move forward, by taking positive steps to overcome your anxiety. Acceptance is half the battle. Try talking to someone you trust about it.

If something like that happens..it happens! And you will deal with it and you will even be in newspapers and stuff! Or it might not happen, which is even better. However, anxiety will not change the outcome.

This is very true. Also, the thing I was encouraged to do when I was having CBT was to assess the probability of "the worst" happening, as often when you do this, you see that the chances of it being the worst case scenario are actually quite low.
