    Valerian

Is anyone else taking this? I've just started taking Medic Herb Valerina, only started it yesterday so not expecting any improvement just yet.

However it smells and tastes absolutely gross - like vomit or mouldy cheese. It's really awful and I can't get rid of the taste in my mouth or the smell on my hands when I touch it. It's really putting me off taking them, I want to throw up as soon as I get them out of the packet!

I just wondered if anyone had tried any other brands and, if so, are they are bit more palatable???

    Hi Caroline -
The valerian tea is much better tasting. Give it a try and see what you think

Does the Valerian tea work as well as the tablets?

Does anyone else take Valerian? Just wondering how long it takes to "kick in" and when I can expect to notice a difference!

I just started taking the Valerian tabs yesterday and i agree with Caroline in that they stink and make my fingers smell for ages.
Are you feelig them take effect now Caroline?
With most herbal med they take about a week or so to kick in so i'll keep on them till then.

To be honest, I stuck with them for a couple of weeks but did not notice any difference.

I had a chat with a doctor and she said a lot of these things can upset the gastrointestinal tract, and as I have been having a lot of tummy/bowel problems I decided to stop these and just stick with the things that I am sure have been working for me.

Maybe this was just a bit of an excuse to stop taking them as they smelt so bad!

I take two before I go to sleep and I know what you mean about the smell but I just hold my nose and swallow them. I have found that I am sleeping better and find it easier to get off to sleep. Do you take them in the day as well?

I find that if I take them for more than 3 nights, they start having a reverse effect. Anyone else notice this? I think it smells like feet. But the tea is much better, although before you steep it, you're going to think you're going to drink sweat socks.

I'm currently taking valerian in liquid form which I dilute in a small amount of water which I got from my Homeopath, combined with another homeopathic remedy I have found myself much calmer of late and more positive too. I am thinking about the here and now rather than rushing about and it feels good. I think sometimes that self administering of homeopathic remedies can do more harm than good. If you can afford to, I would definitly recommend anyone seek out a professional therapist as it's a complex system and needs specialist advice.

Does anyone know if plain valerian as opposed to valerina is any different. Valerina gave me the runs the this morning after last night so not that keen on using that again. Any tips anyone, trying to find an alternative to sleeping pills which I came off and want to stay off but my sleep is still not great.
