Can you stop taking Fluoxetine after the 3rd day?

Hi guys!

So, you're probably wondering why I'm stopping this. I have never felt SO terrible in all my life. I can't sleep, feel extremely weird, feel faint, sweating even though I'm only in dressing gown, body tremors, can't eat, feel as if I'm about to throw up every 10 minutes and so on. I'm almost certain it is because of fluoxetine. I'm on 20mg by the way if that helps at all.

I felt exactly the same go back to the docs and see what they say.

I went back on citalopram.

You can stop it without any problems, but I really think you should speak to your doctor like dottie says. Fluoxetine can work really well once your body had got over all the side effects but you have to give it time - too many people seem to jump between medications without giving one particular medication time to work.

If I were you I'd ask the doctor if you could get liquid fluoxetine and try 5mg a day and build up from there (maybe you might only need 5-10mg to stay well). You could always open up the capsules in juice or water which is essentially the same thing. But have a chat to your GP about things - I think you should give it a chance to work.

oh no,Rls1994, that's no good at all. after all your effort to take it this must be such a disappontment. do you think it's definitely the fluoxetine? maybe i was lucky that these things didnt happen to me? I'm on 20mg as well. my sympathy, i wish i could give you sound advice but as it was ok for me it's difficult to know how to you advise you. but after just 3 days i doubt coming off it'll be a problem. going back to yr doc. does sound like the right thing tho.

I felt just like this, but it was over in about a week. It wasn't perfect in a week, but it was much better and continued to improve, so I would recommend riding the storm as it will get better. Be kind to yourself and dont do anything silly and you will be ok x

How long have you been on Fluoxetine?

It can take up to 6-8 weeks to work :/
