5 HTP

I'm considering trying this for anxiety. Can anyone give any experience?

I'm stuck in that I can't take SSRI medication and trycyclics that I can take my gp isn't too keen on but said I could try them:/ I'm considering trying 5 HTP but wondered what others thought of it. I don't really like self medicating.

I found it of some use a few years ago. It's not as obvious an effect as some prescription meds but it may help calm you and aid sleep.

I certainly wouldn't take it alongside any ADs or anxiety meds though, it doesn't play nice with those.

I've tried it a few times but it never did anything for me, neither good nor bad. But it won't hurt you to give it a try. All the best.

It's quite expensive, BTW.

If you do decide it's worth a try, personally I'd get it from somewhere reputable like Holland & Barrett, quality matters with these sort of things, and you've a better chance of decent quality with a well known brand.
