sounds like your periods are as bad as mine. Mine are sooo bad. i dont haveregular periods, theyre always between a week or 2 late, if not i miss. Anyway, i always get cramps a few days before. The first day i do get a period is TERRIBLE! PAIN PAIN PAIN!!! stomach cramps, leg cramps{theyre the worse, but 16 hot baths later and 12 refills of the hot water bottle im usually ok and can get outta bed} but i do also get bad wind and constipation whilst im on aswell. its very strange! anybody would think i have some serious illness every month {or 2 in my case sometimes!}

Hi Carly,, i hope since you wrote ur message that your feeling better, there are several reasons why you can be suffering with these symptoms,,, 1) u say u have a baby, often the body needs time to re adujst since giving birth, also your hormones can take a long long time to get back to normal. Bowel spasms and periods go hand in hand, often women experience irratable bowel syndrome when they have their period which is like griping sharp pains, bloating of the stomach, and oh not forgeting the dreaded wind, do u have any gynea problems carly? there is a relatively new tablet on the market that helped me, as a suffer of endometriosis, and really severe IBS, which i add carly is loves stress,,, IBS reacts to stressful situations,,,,, the tablet my doctor recommended to me was alverine citrate ( also known as spasmanol) taken twice daily it really helped me as it relieves the symptoms of IBS, but research then found that it relaxes the smooth muscle of the pelvis, so in turn helped with period pain,,, hope this helps carly<b id="quote">quote:</b id="quote"><table border="0" id="quote"><tr id="quote"><td class="quote" id="quote">Hi all would appreciate any sort of replies to this..
Well, I feel like a bit of a pratt cos yesterday I felt ok (apart from coming on and having the usual awful cramps) and was trying to give others advice.
Then last night it all went wrong , had a row with my boyfriend, who locked me in on the way out to stop me locking him out; then came the most terrible stomach cramps. It felt like a mixture of period pains and trapped wind (lower end-sorry to be crude).
So I took some Ibuprofen for the period pains, which eased but the windy cramps just got worse and worse, I couldn't stay still, couldn't ease it and before I knew it I was having a full blown PA.
So mum comes down in her pyjamas, yells at me that its just a panic attack 'what am I supposed to do?'(my stomach was agony but by this point i was more concerned with the fact I was going to faint) at which point I threw her out before she woke baby up (who id spent over an hour getting to sleep).
So there I was at square one on my own, in agony, and terrified.
it took a good hour to get to sleep, which I figured was the only way to stop panicking, but when baby woke at 4.30 it was still painful. Have had the pains on and off today, too, just praying they don't get to what they were last night.
Anyway, sorry for the essay, but does anyone get any symptoms like this with a period? I'm scared I've got some terrible gynaecological problem?
Please help....

Thankyou Becci- yeah strange but my period pains seem to extend almost to my ankles, sometimes an ache, sometimes shooting pains. Not nice is it?
Thanks Karen- I haven't been to the docs cos I hear you have to have the symptoms for 12 weeks before you can get a diagnosis of IBS although I'll go if I feel I need a prescription, but I'm going to look up spasmanol and maybe mention it when I go so, yeah, thankyou for the info.Very much appreciated.

Period pains are weird! I get them in my lower abdomen, in my back and even in my hips and legs!
The wind problems are common too, [:I]as are constipation and even diarrhoea when you first come on (sorry to be graphic)! It's down to muscle contractions.
Don't forget your most likely to be more stressed out when pre menstrual and hence more likely to panic! I've been there, last Wednesday afternoon to be precise! I felt like I couldn't breathe and had a teribble sense of unreality which I always get when I'm on! I spent all afternoon panicking and ruminating about what could be the matter with me, until I snapped myself out of it!
I really don't think your problem is serious from what you have said , but if your problems persist see your doctor!

carly, mine are the same, it lingers around my thighs to my knees and then gradually all my legs ache. How we cope is beyond me!!! those males have it sooo easy!! think they all strong and cooool, wanna have a period for a month blokes?!

My goodness! Finally found out what I've had ever since I was little. Looked at the no more panic info section on IBS and all my symptoms are there lol Never knew that one of the contributing factors could be stress though. No wonder I've always been a worrier! Hope everything worked out with your boyfriend Carly and hope you had a good birthday.
Thanx Pips, Charlie and Meg! Might be able to relieve some of those symptoms now.
