How will Propranolol 80mg slow release help?

To cut a story short, early 2012, I was poorly (sick) during a meeting.

I'm sure this was anxiety related because I started to work myself up in the afternoon by thinking about how I will be spending another couple of days in on this meeting.

Due to this trauma, everytime a meeting or work social events occur, I woory days in advance and then always duck and dive out of them because of the fear I'm going to be sick (Metophobia).

I'm currently on amitriptiline (60mg) and this was not helping my fear of going into meeting, social events or even being a passenger in a car.

I went back to see my doctor yesterday and told him everything about the nausea feeling on hot flushes and he suggested Propranolol 80mg slow release for a week and then return, which I got pretty excited that these could work.

I have decided to try them Saturday but reading into these on several forums, I'm started to feel low about taking them because I can not see much effidence how it can help with my nausea feeling before meetings and also stop these hot flushes.

If anybody could help with my query then I would be gratefull.

Red, I went on them to help with the side effects of Fluxotiene and I swear they helped me so much, they really do help with the anxiety and the hot flashes, I started on 80mg and then went up to 160mg and I take one every morning, they made me a little tired in the afternoons when I first started on them but after a week that wore off.

Give them a try they really helped me.

    Janine,

Thank you for taking time out to reply.

Was one of your side effects nausea, and if so did they help?

I keep getting nervous shakes and nausea feeling due to anxiety etc.

when I first started the flux I had nausea with the anxiety although was never actually sick, I would wake with feeling really hot and sick and it would then take me ages to calm down and be able to go back to sleep again.

The propanolol did not give me nausea and it helped because it helped calm the anxiety down.

    Hope that helps

Well, I decided to take one this morning and if I'm honest, no side effects or and difference in my anxiety, hope these will not be a waste of time.

    Red,

They're slow release so you'll have to give them time to build up in your system. A couple of days and you'll be able to see the difference.

Beta blockers work wonders for me so have confidence that they will for you too.

My main reason for trying these tablets was to help with nausea anxiety in meetings, just worried if these do not work then I'm left with nothing else to help.

Red, Pip is right they are slow release and take a few days to build up in your system, honestly they really do help just give it time.
