Best medication for OCD?

Hi all,

I just wondered what is the best medication for OCD sufferers? I'm currently on 20mg of citalopram & have been for 2 years but it doesn't help with the anxiety & panic I feel.

I am going on CBT soon - 16th February to help with this but just what's best along side it.

Fluoxetine (prozac) and Fluvoxamine seem to be good for OCD thoughts. Prozac is quite activating though where as fluvoxamine has more of a sedating effect.

There are also sertraline, paroxetine and escitalopram (which is similar to citalopram).

Another medication which is proven to effectively treat OCD is clomipramine, however, this is an older, tricyclic antidepressant and comes with a whole range of additional side effects.

I am on Dosulepin which works great for anxiety and the depression side.

Hi pearl, I've never heard of that one....is it good?

I feel more anxious & just generally yucky at the moment even when they upped my citalopram & I know it's not side effects as I had them before & know the difference.

I use Lexapro for a month 10mg per day and I still cant see any effect...I am more anxious. I heard that Anafranil is good but is the old generation of meds

It's a tryciclic anti depressant, I can't take SSRI meds.

Hi. I take Sertraline. Orginally i was on 50mg but i was increased to 100mg. Sertraline works really well for me. I had my doubts but very happy

Sertraline is good and what I'm on but it depends on what ur doctor feels y's good for u. I was citalopram for 8yrs proir to this and was on 50mgs but they stopped working for me but sertraline is hope thus helps
