Seeing a retina specialist, what to expect?

After seeing an eye doctor for vision problems she referred me to a retina specialist whom I'm seeing next Wednesday. I don't know what to expect or what he will do to my eyes. I have a appointment 5 hours later that day to see my therapist, will I be okay to go? I won't be driving but I don't want to be completely blind if they will do something to my eyes.

I am seeing a retina specialist because I am seeing flashes and static everywhere in my vision and the eye doc thinks its probably a good idea to be seeing him.

    Hello Owls

I recently saw a retina doctor due to the same symptoms.
I stupidly drove to the appointment and when i got there they said
that they shoulnt really test me incase it affected my vision for driving the car
    home.
Anyway they decided to have a good look at my left eye as thats the one i get most the
symptoms in, i had drops put in firstly to numb the eye, then drops to dilate the pupil really big, so they could get a good look behind.
The whole examimation was painless just annoying as i dont like bright lights in my eye!!!
I was able to drive afterwards because my other eye was ok.
Having dilated pupils does affect your sight slightly, my sight didnt come back to normal until the next morning.

Apparently the lighter coloured your eyes are the longer it takes for the drops to wear off, my eyes are pale green.

Thank god i dont have a detached retina and they dont want to see me again unless the flashes get much worse.
You will be fine honey, probably best if you have someone with you and dont drive, like stupid me!!!
Good luck and lets know how you get on xxxx

Just a word on detached retina. My friend who is very short sighted had this when he got hit in the face by a football. He was fixed up fine and his vision is back to normal. Amazing the things that they can do with eyes these days.
