    another question about cars!!! lol

I am hopeless with my car. I just took it in for breaks to be done. I have 2008 hyundai elantra manual transmission. It's at 67,000 miles and they are saying I have to do the timing belt ASAP but it costs $500.00! What! I always thought timing belts had to get done around 80,000 or 100,000 miles. But they said it is really 60,000. Are they trying to pull one over on me?

He also said if you don't get it changed and it snaps it will end up costing you a lot more.

Changing the timing belt is a big job, the belt itself is pretty cheap, but you need to dismantle most of the engine to get to it to change it, so the cost reflects the labour involved.

$500 isn't that bad, some of the cars I have owned have cost over £800 to have the belts done, which is around $1200

Different models of cars need them changing at different times as well, and the bad news is that if they do snap, they basically destroy the engine, and because of the cost of repairing the engine it often isn't worth doing, so new car time !

I once asked for trade price and the mechanic said what trade are you so I said "My own" and he replied "I will give you the discount for your cheek!" Worth a try ladies
