    Sertraline - Will this help?

    Hi all,

I was prescribed 50mg of this a few weeks ago but have had flu and was recluctant to start the medication as I felt so ill.
Now I feel alittle better I want to start but have read on here that some of you have started on 25mg as a starting dose, also that some take it at night instead of in a morning. I was told to take it in a morning by my doctor but when I spoke to him last week he said I could take it at night, especially as I have trouble sleeping, also that I could have a low dose of diazepam to take too initially.

To be honest I know I need to start the tablets as I feel so low (having flu hasn't helped),but have had so many side effects with others I feel really anxious about starting a new tablet. I just want to feel better and every day that goes by I feel I'm getting more and more down.

Any advice you could give would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Lainie

    Hey

It doesn't really matter what time you take it but some people like to take it at night before they go to sleep as they feel they can sleep through some of the side effects or strange feelings they get when starting the meds. Its never made much of a difference to me.

If you do start I would start with the 25mg and then up it to 50mg after a couple of weeks. You could even take 25mg one day then 50mg the next for a week or so before you up to 50mg everyday. This is what I have done in the past and this way it is a much more slow and subtle increase so you don't notice it so much and the side effects are usually not as bad.

Hope everything works out for you

Hi Lainie, I've been on Sert now for 3 weeks and started at 50mg then doc uppped to to 100mg on Monday. I also got valium to help me through any side effects. Everyone is different and the only side effects I've had is couple of days feeling sick at the begining and my anxiety being higher than usual. Its the same again when I upped it but nothing like it was. I'm just taking the valium when I need it. I feel already they are helping as this was a last resort for me. I take it in the morning as some people say it keeps them awake if taking it at night.

Hope it goes ok for you. Just keep positive and saying they are going to help you so its worth it! Thats what I do.

Any questions just PM me if you want. Good Luck
