    hello,
im suffering from social anxiety or(agrophobia) and im going to see a doctor soon for treatment. i know i will be sent to a therapist which im very nervous about, can anyone tell me what the therapist does to help you. because some times i feel my problems are to silly to be helped, i know there not but i get that feeling. what does the therapist say or do for you to make you feel better? id love to hear from people who have experienced this!! thanks.

    Hi There Rubber

I guess it all depends on what type of therapist you will be seeing.
The ones who do councelling will just talk to you about your problems and life and help you talk through your problems , I guess with a view to you being able to sort out in your head why you feel this way.
If you get lucky enough to be referred to a CBT specialist (which I have had) , then take a look at the homepage on this site which will tell you all about it.

One thing I will say though, is be honest with them. They are there to help you and they cant give you the correct treatment/advice if you arent open with them.

take care and let us know how you get on.

    Hiya

Dont worry about asking questions, If I can answer I will

take a look at this link to a topic from last year. Myself and Jo were both going to anxiety management groups/CBT and we both wrote a sort of diary. It might be useful for you to look at save me writing it all out again. If there is anything more specific you want to know, just ask again

From person experience, every therapist is different.

Some want you to think about what may have triggered your anxiety, things in your childhood, for example.
Some want to teach you to relax and deal with the outside world.

I find mine is brillant as she teaches relaxation techniques, coping skills to help cope with the outside world and give support.

I find it very helpful, but it may not be to everyone's liking.

    Good luck

Therapist are basically there for you to vent to tell them EVERYTHING and then they give you helpful adivce and ways to help make it better or easier to cope with.

    hi there,

i've been seeing a therapist for quite a few months now and she has helped me loads. we mostly just talk but you would be surprised at how good i feel afterwards. The therapist will act accordingly depending on what your problems are. Don't be afraid that your issues are 'silly' because I'm sure that they have heard it all before. After all, if you're having a certain problem, then I'm sure someone else has had it in the past...Good luck!!!
