Propranolol - how will this help my symptoms?

I visited my GP yesterday, who has now prescribed 4*10mg of Propranolol a day to see if this helps with my anxiety. However, my main symptoms are derealisation/depersonalisation, dizzy off-balance floaty feelings and head pressure. I don't understand how medication aimed at slowing down your heart-rate is supposed to help with these symptoms? I hate taking tablets, and as I've read that dizziness is an actual side-effect of propranolol, I'm a little concerned about starting this! I really don't know what to do...any advice would be much appreciated!

Hey Beatrice,

You will find that not everyone experiences the side effects of propranolol i take it for my heart condition and havent noticed any side effects apart from cold hands i find it helps to calm my nerves where other tabs have failed give it a try and see how it goes

Hi Beatrice. It does seem odd to be prescribed propranolol when you have not been suffering with panic attacks or high blood pressure.
