Quick Citalopram Question

This is my 2nd time on Citalopram for depression. The 1st time i was on 10mg for 8 months. This time i am on 20mg as 10mg did not seem to be strong enough. How long would anyone recommend staying on them this time?? I really don't want to stop them too early and find that i have to go through the withdrawls and side effects starting them up again just over a year later. Thanks

It seems that most people do not feel solid benefit 'til at least 2 months in, so I would think that a minimum treatment would be a half year or so. But that really depends on a lot of individual factors and whether you're also receiving supportive counseling, making the right lifestyle adjustments, etc.

My question to you is: how are you committing to a total wellness plan? Are you doing thorough therapy, exercise etc? What are you starting to do now that will help you after you've finished the citalopram?

Several people in the chatroom have told me it's best to stay on for at least a year. The first time round, I only stayed on for 6 months, but I ended up having a relapse and have been back on them for 12 days.
