Fear of driving

Hi There,

Does anyone have a fear of driving ? I used to be fine but over the past 12months I have a bad fear.When I get in the car my hands shake..... my heart pounds....and I feel sick. I have to go through this each day as I need to get to work( no bus route where i live )
am I alone ant tips would help.

HI i,m exactly the same, just ca,nt do it tell a lie i do drive to work but thats it and i work nights so at least there is,nt much traffic about.It never used to bother me ,i just never thought about it just did it ,but now i ca,t drive on moterways, or any distance ,I EVEN MAKE A WORSE PASSENGER.sorry this is,nt what you need to hear,your not alone , BIG HUG lorraine

I can't drive alone at all :(
My problem is agoraphobia so driving is a real issue.
I can, however, drive with my mother (only)...

Hi stringy,

I have driving issues, but only if I am driving on the motorway and have too overtake a lorry. I have too say its getting better. I go on the motorway everyday and will continue to do so until I have overcome this fear even though when I have too overtake a lorry my sisters words not mine I am so white I look like someone has just dug me up nice eh?

Thanks to you all, I CAN'T drive on the motorway at all,I would sooner try and fly to the moon without a rocket.I only drive to work, and I am a terrible passenger. It sounds silly but I have to put tissue under my arms before I set out. When I get to work they are soaked. I have to have the cold air blowers on me to cool me down. I hate the way I feel and I am trying to get over it but cant.

although i battle with agoraphobia even at its worst i could drive alone to a friends house somehow i dont feel like i'm outside as the car is a safe haven for me (no crowds)
i do have a fear of getting lost i recently pulled out of a holiday cos the friend i was going with was away the week before and wanted to meet me the thought of travelling 300 miles on motorways i've never been on terrifed me

I have continued to drive throughout my 12 years of suffering and panic.

I have never passed out and I am perfectly safe to drive - it just doesn't feel like it at times
