Is it best to take the tablet morning or night?

Dear all,

I was prescribed 50mg of sertraline last week but haven't yet plucked up the courage to start taking them.

I have been prescribed them for anxiety which has been brought on by severe rhinitis, sinus problems and ibs (all diagnosed by the Dr and am taking relevant medication).

I have previously taken citalopram but I gained a lot of weight on them so didn't want to try them again!

My question is, is it best to take sertraline in the morning or at night? What are your experiences please?

Sorry youve been poorly

I would recommend taking them in the morning after breakfast .

I tried them at night once and found it harder to sleep.

Hi Claire,
I think it is down to the individual. I started them in the mornings but found they made me nauseas all day. I have never had problems (touch wood) with sleep, so took them with dinner and have slept like a baby and less nausea, trial and error. Hope you feel better soon hun.

Thanks Carefree, I did used to take my citalopram at night as I found that better for me. I will see how I go with the morning and then swap to night time if it doesn't agree with me.

Good plan. I too was on citalopram and gained lots of weight which Im still trying too lose. I think sert deff agrees with me more. Good luck!

Well I chickened out on taking the tablet this morning, so am gunna try to be brave tonight

Thanks so much, I have been reading your diary, it's really helpful I'm just a bit scared to take them but not sure why, the side effects I think, and then I convince myself I don't need them cos I feel ok some days and then something will just set me off. like today, i was fine all day upto about 8pm and then got this feeling that something was stuck in my throat and that I couldn't breath, I get this quite often, but it makes me panic a bit and feels the only way I ease the feeling is forcing myself to burp. When I start distracting myself though it goes off, so is obviously, in my opinion, all anxiety.

I need to man up and start them I know

It is a difficult decision- I was very reluctant to take them but I felt quite desperate.
