gabapentin as anti-anxiety agent

Has anybody had experience taking gabapentin as an anti-anxiety agent? I know it is an anti-convulsant. My doctor said it is used more nowadays for anxiety. He prescribed it for me because I was having sexual side effects from escitalopram at 20mg. He had me drop down to 15mg (which fortunately worked). The gabapentin does seem to work a little, but not like I'd hoped. It also makes me somewhat sleepy, but it doesn't work as a sleep aid for me. I'm also taking a half-dose of 0.05 clonazepam in the evening, and a 50mg dose of trazodone at bedtime. My doctor did say it was ok to take the gabapentin and the clonazepam and the trazodone in the same day. I would appreciate it if anybody who has had experience with this drug could respond. Thanks!

I was prescribed 100mg as needed (for insomnia and anxiety.) it doesn't work in regards to my insomnia but it did make me feel more calm and less anxious, I have only taken it twice though and both times were at night to try an sleep

Yes, that has been my experience also. It doesn't do anything for my insomnia, but I guess it does help a little with the anxiety. I've been taking 100 mg 3 times a day, but it has just been a few days. Perhaps I will know better over a period of time whether it works consistently or not.

It's basically the sister drug of Pregabalin and works wonders for anxiety. I am on 150mg twice daily and I finds it helps a lot. It doesn't take all the anxiety away, but it certainly does take some of it away. Stick with it.
