Changed from escitalopram to citalopram which has caused me panic attacks

Hi there, I changed from escitalopram to citalopram 2 months ago, I then experienced a panic attack 3 weeks into the new medication whereupon I changed to escitalopram immediately, I have consequently still been suffering from high anxiety and panic attacks which have prevented me from working. I have taken, a few days ago, diazapam which helps slightly. How long before the citalopram is out of my system? Or is this psychological?

I had been on Escitalopram for depression for around a year and it was working great, until my GP decided to switch me to Citalopram about 3 weeks ago.

Since then I have not been myself, panic attacks 3-5 times a day when I had never had them before.

I'm told they are essentially the same drug so do not understand what is going on.

Went to my Gp a few days ago and he prescribed me with beta-blockers (Propanalol) for the anxiety but still kept me on Citalopram, the panic attacks are less often but sill happening.

Going back to my doctor on Monday to see if I can go back on Escitalopram, switching between these two drugs has been a horrible and terrifying experience.

I wish I could offer some advise but I can't. I've only ever taken cipramil. All I can say is that it's not a quick fix with the cit. I'm on day 11 40mg and still not feeling well.... Think it's mainly the side effects now though. I am finding this forum a great help for daily support. Gl to u both xx
