Got letter today from GP to go and see gynaecologist:( HA really really bad today!

Following my recent posts about having a scan for heavy periods I got a letter off my Dr this morning saying don't overly worry but for your reassurance cos I know you worry I have made apt with a gynaecologist as the radiologist recommended it! The radiologist had told me at the scan that I have a thickening of lining and that I will prob need to see gynaecologist! I am now totally convinced I have got ovarian cancer or womb cancer!!
My dr went away on holiday yesterday so she must have got the results straight back and she said she had tried to phone me! The letter then said that she has made apt for 5th nov as she knows how anxious I get! and that if I ring the practice before her return next Thursday one of the Drs will talk to me and explain everything!!
I am sooooo frightened and wish I hadn't gone for scan now! I have stupidly googled stuff again:( I just cant think straight xxx I only had a scan for the same problems last Jan (ongoing periods....I am 49 years old so assumed perimenopause) and all was fine then xxx

I have told you before that the same happened to me and it was just polyp in my uterus. The doctor phoned me to tell me he was referring me after my scan results. he phoned me on my mobile when I was at work so that panicked me.
They have explained that they are making the appointment soon because of your anxiety..no other reason. At the age you are, I am sure it will be something to do with the menopause causing the thickening but there could also be a polyp. I was sent for a hysteroctopy (camera in uterus) and it was just a polyp which was easily removed.

Jellybean, this all sounds straight forward and exactly what you expected would happen. You were already told that you'd be a referred to a gynaecologist right? That's a good thing, it'll help you with the problems you've been having and you want to get those sorted don't you?

Your doctor sounds very kind and understanding, what a lovely woman to have taking care of your health. She can only help you with so much, the gynaecologist is the doctor who specialises in this area so they will be more help to you than your GP.

I am just sooo frightened and think what if they have found a tumour or something?! I just cant think straight! I am convinced now the radiologist hasn't told me the truth....my poor hubby cant make me see any sense today!!x

If you live your life on "what ifs" then you'll always be frightened about something that may never happen. Is it really worth wasting your time & energy on that?

Are you doing anything to manage your anxiety issues? I know it's easy to lean on our loved ones, but it's not your hubby's responsibility to make you see sense, that's something only you can do.

I had cbt a few years ago and it worked! I have been relatively HA free for about 4 years honey til this episode with my periods and for some reason I started googling again:(((( I have got my HA books out and trying to read through them again but today nothing is making sense ....x

Now is the time for you to put some of those CBT techniques back into action so. Instead of googling get out a notebook and work your way through some of the old lessons you learned.

I think cos this is a very "real" issue I am struggling to cope honey.....and lots of other stuff going on in the family too makes it hard at the mo(my dad has cancer)......x

When you're really struggling is when you need these techniques the most, that's what they're for. They will help you cope with real life problems in a healthier way.

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad, it sounds like you need to put some tools into place to help you handle the stress you're under at the moment.
