long term use of meds please help

hi

just some info really as i have finally demanded and got appointment with a pychiatrist in 2 weeks....
been on paroxetine for 10 years on and off...having terrible anxiety for last few monthsd which has led to depression as well....gp upped my meds...
do they lose affect after time...would appreciate any ones experience both sides really as this site is packed full of peeps on long term medication and it would be so helpful to get real experiences rather that doc's opinions..(my gp googles - very reassuring).xxx

I cant comment on longterm use of the same meds but it is something that has been suggested for me!!

I think it is good that you are being referred as getting to the bottom of your problems is what is important.

I have to agree with Nigel, 10 years is along time to be dealing with anxiety,and only having meds to help, i have suffered with anxiety for 11 years ,and i didnt get much help for a few years, the meds did help, but its only the last couple of years i have made big improvement with the CBT, Hypnotherapy and phychiatric help which as helped me deal with the panic.
Im glad to hear you have finally got your appointment through from the pychiatrist, you will be able to get to the bottom of it now and hopefully move on.

hi guys many thanks for you reply....I have only been on 10mgs for years....just gone up...THerapy seems not to be helping....Does Hypnotherapy work ?????
