    The Power of the placebo

    Hi all,

Is anyone watching the programme about placebos from Horizon...

It just shows how powerful the mind can be!! It won't scare anyone either... It's just fascinating how the mind can work...

O just to warn you there is a case of Parkinson's on there... However it does show still how the mind can affect the body physically... And it's just incredible!

Yes watching this now. So very interesting. I can't believe how powerful and direct the placebo effect is on people!

I just think it shows how powerful the mind can be!
I mean look at this guy having this wisdom tooth out with hypnotherapy!
You have to think of it in the reverse... We think we have something wrong so we start having the symptoms....

Not just that, but we start experiencing pain.
When I had a lump in my thigh and thought it was a liposarcoma, my leg started to hurt so bad that I was limping. I could barely walk, I felt like my leg was rotting off.
When the doctor told me it was nothing, the pain ceased.
The brain is very powerful. If it can make us experience extreme pain that isn't really there, then hypothetically it must have the power to block out actual pain, as well.
