Thread: Endoscopy with Sedation

    Re: Endoscopy with Sedation

I know this is an old post but maybe other people due to have an endoscopy will read this. Be very careful. Midazolam sedation does not always work. Not everyone who has Midazolam will get amnesia. I had endoscopy with no throat spray and midazolam sedation. It was absolutely horrific, they just gave me more midazolam and held me down, I remember it all. I have had no medical treatment since, and it is the cause of my PTSD and anxiety.

I was the same, the midazolam didn't touch me either. I freaked out and had to stop the procedure.

I didn't even get the option of sedation.

Luckily, It was done by a really good no-nonsense consultant. He was clinical director of surgery at the hospital and an upper GI specialist. Very quick scope...Definitely not the most pleasant experience of my life but its not the end of the world.

    Hiatus hernia was diagnosed.

I had one done earlier this year with sedation and I can't remember anything of it. It went a LOT better than I expected. I thought I would gag (something I'm scared of!) but I didn't feel a thing. Only thing I hated was the IV shot in my arm (I hate needles lol).

Unpleasant yes Would I want it done again -no but not as bad as some of the posters claim
For the record I suffer from chronic anxiety and health anxiety which is why I had the Endoscopy

OMG - I'm not the only one this happened to!?! Not only did I have exactly the same as above, but I also ended up having a terrible allergic reaction to it where my face swelled up like an over-ripe melon and went all blotchy like cheap salami - and this was the night before Xmas eve...! (Though I suppose it was worth it as I was diagnosed with hiatus hernia, stomach ulcer and H.Pylori active infection)

I thought I was the only one this had happened to. It's amazing to hear or someone else going through *exactly the same thing* *hugs*

    Re: Endoscopy with Sedation

When I had my endoscopy it was a breeze! I had the throat spray, sedation, the works. I remember waking up and hearing someone gag. Then I heard someone say my name and telling me to breathe through my mouth? Nose? Can't even remember exactly. I didn't even know it was me gagging.
