    Anti social

I am going to add to my social anxiety that during job interviews and when I talk to some people etc I get really nervous that I get a red blotchy rash on my neck and I find this then adds to the whole nerves because I know that it is going to happen before I even get there and that is all I am thinking about the whole time. I am very embarrassed by it.

Can anyone give me some ideas on how to deal with this or is there something that will help.

Also I find it hard to start conversations with people. I find that I don't really have anything to talk about to start a conversation or to keep one going. I then hear things like I am a snob or not very sociable.

I also find that I try and talk myself out of going out for tea, movies etc with our friends and I get this unwell feeling when I do go out, it goes away once I start to feel comfortable.

I don't drink alcohol and feel anti social because everyone else is and having a good time.

Thanks for listening to my problems again. I have been bottling all these things up for years and find this website great for expressing my thoughts.

Hi deb,you are not alone.I get the exact same blotchy rash all round my neck.I just ignore it now.Its something I have learnt to live with.I cant stop it happening, its like it has a mind of its own.[:I][:I]I dont socialise if I can help it,my anxiety stops me from doing this.
Im sure someone here will give you some helpful advise.

    Hi Deb,

I suffer too, with the same problem. I get a very blotchy rash when I am nervous and sometimes with other emotions too.

I too know how you feel about conversation, I find I am o.k to a degree if people talk about themselves but when the tables are turned or I'm expected to relate something I kind of get awkward and stumbly and sometimes seize up altogether.

One thing that helps is not judging yourself harshly and not guilt tripping. You are worth as much as anyone else. You probably wouldn't think less of someone feeling the way you do, so expect people to treat you the same and if they dont they are the ones with a problem not you.

With conversations if someone talks quite a bit, listen carefully, pick up on something and ask a question back, but don't worry if you don't feel able to talk much, go with what you feel comfortable with and try not to kick yourself when you don't do too well. Sometimes conversations just don't seem to go to well, maybe they are socially awkward too don't take all the responsibility for it working.

Sorry you're going through this I know how painful it can be

    Hi deb,
I can sympathise on this....i get the reash too from my chest to my chin. i dont know how to stop it and make up is no good. Even if im trying to pretend Im not terrified the rash is a dead giveaway lol! I also avoid going out socially very often...its too stressful beforehand then too painful afterwards as I worry what everyone was thinking.

    Horrible eh?

    take care

hi deb, i can't believe this is happening too. at work if i talk to anyone, even the janitor, my whole chest and neck area turns beet red. i put off the implication that i am secure, but inside i am imploding. weird..just another form of anxiety. not attractive, but it won't kill us!! good luck and wear a turtlneck..lol.
