    why bother?

Surely you're better off dealing with what's generating the feelings you need to control instead of controlling them.

Anyhow, focus deep full on quality outbreaths, since the natural process of breathing will refil your lungs.

Also, the deeper you go the better you will refil the blood with fresh oxgen and that's going to help as well.

Focusing on out breaths will be forcing you to focus on a more relaxed and less tense state, focusing on in breaths will just add tension.

    HTH

    happy to discuss further

    Regards

I've found controlled breathing very helpful in a crisis and when I'm getting to sleep. I believe that sometimes it's needed as a stop gap while the underlying issues are addressed.

    Mornin' Matt,

Can I suggest you try the 7/11 method? Breath in for a count of 7 and out for a count of 11.

I had a major panic attack last week (my first ever) and it took me some time to get my breathing under control but the 7/11 technique did work ..... once I'd forced myself to remember to use it!

    Happiness and light to you,
    'Chopper'

I saw her once, one little while, and then no more:
’Twas Eden’s light on Earth a while, and then no more.
Amid the throng she passed along the meadow-floor:
    Spring seemed to smile on Earth awhile, and then no more;
But whence she came, which way she went, what garb she wore
I noted not; I gazed a while, and then no more!

that's the snag - having to remember.
