    Citalopram to Mirtazapine

I've been on Citalopram 20mg for 5 years.

My sex drive is at rock bottom and has been for about two years.

We're trying for a baby, so I had to do something.

My Psychiatrist has prescribed Mirtazapine to replace the Citalopram in the hope that it will increase my sex drive.

    Will it?

Does anyone have any experience of moving from Citalopram to Mairtazapine?

    Thanks in advance

Yes!!! Mirtazapine is prescribed usually for the fact that it has or should have no sexual side effects! There is always an exception..and always someone that it doesn't work on but generally it's a pretty gentle antidepressant...pretty gentle considering it actually does quite lot of positive I tried citalopram before mirtazapine, I lasted 5 days on citalopram...it gave me severe insomnia and that wasn't helpful as my anxiety trigger was insomnia xx

    Hi Rachy,

Thanks for the response. Citalopram is a bit of a nightmare for the first 2 to 6 weeks - then it levels out and is a superb Anti-Depressant and Anti-Anxiety tab.

I am looking forward to Mirt's supposed sedative effects.

    Re: Citalopram to Mirtazapine

I was unable to wait the full 2-4weeks until the side effects passed as it was making my anxiety so much worse because of the insomnia being the reason I got anxious in the first place..I have a 3year old to look after too so it was not good. This is why i'm on mirtazapine..the sedative effect is lush

It is quite powerful first few nights, and you may feel quite zombie like first week, but I promise it disappears. I was good to go after day 3 on it. I started on 30mg and now on 45mg. It's less sedating the higher the dose (weird I know) but you do get more tolerant. My main worry about mirt was that I would never wake if my son needed me, or i'd never spend time with hubby as I'd be going to bed at 9pm everynight, but I was wrong. I take my tablet at 10pm and can stay up until midnight if I want..it just helps ever so slightly now to sleep..which is perfect xx

Thanks hun.yes its been nice, feel tired now though.
Just worried now about waking up again in the night with that horrible thing I had last night.
Thing is,I need to tell myself that I've had lots of other nights that were fine.
In worried that the meds are building up too much.
Do you think I should just take the 15ml tonight?
How are you,by the way, sorry just going on about myself.
