How long do test results take??

So I dropped off my stool sample on Fri morning first thing and was told it would take 2 business days for results. So called doc today and they still don't have them!
How long does it usually take for these things? Usually I hear about blood work tests the next day! Would the lab let the doc know immediately if it was positive? Getting so anxious with this waiting :(

It could be that they've had them but haven't had time to look at them.

How does it all work? Do docs have to look at the results and sign them off before they show up on the system?

I think so.
Otherwise, the receptionist wouldn't be able to tell you they're fine or not.
That's my experience, anyway - I've phoned in before, and been told that the results are there but the doctor needs to see them to decide what to do next.

I think a few days FOBT but I think for scans etc it's normally 7 to 10 days but if it's found to be anything major 48hrs that's what I was told

Thanks guys. It's been nearly a week now and no news - I'm hoping that means it's all good. However I still have the urge to ring them up and ask...again...but half afraid they will give the usual "your results aren't in our system yet".
What I'm hoping is that they are sitting in a non priority pile somewhere and haven't been signed off yet.
You would think if it was positive the lab would have flagged it somehow for the doc to prioritize??
