having a bad evening with random missed beats coming and going can feel it on my pulse beats along nicely then i feel a thud in my chest then my pulse seems to pause for a few seconds then resumes beating again what is this? im scared im going to drop dead =( ive had tests etc had 7 day monitor on did pick some up but just told me i was fine and to live with it and here i am again worrying =(

Sorry to hear you're having a bad time at the moment but it's good you've got checked out.

As to the pauses, normal heartbeats are like this:

N-------N-------N-------N-------N------->

But a premature beat can often do this:

N-------N--P------------N-------N------->

As you can see, there is a now a big gap after the premature beat, and that's most likely the pause you're feeling. It's called a "compensatory pause" and is most usually from premature ventricular beats.

So I suspect you were told you have PVCs. Pauses of up to a couple of seconds are normal after those. Hope this helps.
