    Flashes in eyes

Tonight it feels like my eye is swelling up. I was sat on the toilet and kept seeing flashes. I then went back to my room, turned off the light and keep seeing a bright flash under my chin. Terrified of a seizure. Does anyone get this?

I get this sometimes and have never had a seizure so I don't think you have anything to worry about

"a phenomenon called photopsia -- is not unusual as people get older Solitary flashes appear as sparks or minuscule strands of light, almost like streaks of lightning across the sky. They occur when the vitreous gel bumps, rubs, or tugs against the retina (the innermost layer of the eye). Generally harmless, they require no treatment."

I googled for you as I don't have HA

I get the same thing. I went to the eye doctor, freaking out about optic neuritis or something terrible causing it, and he said it was just anxiety. I've learned to accept that it's a part of my vision, but I'm sure you'll be okay.

I also get flashes but mine are every now and then. I spoke to my eye doctor about them and she said they're normal only if they don't come all at once like rain.

I would just speak to an eye doctor.

I've had them before too. Mentioned it to two docs and neither seemed worried at all. They just kinda came and went.

Also, drink more water! I think that helped mine

Flashes are usually vitreous gel tugging on the retina. Very common in people with myopia but if they continue and you see a black shade coming over your vision or loads of floaters then go to an eye doc ASAP as it could be your retina detaching. If it is a flash when you blink it's probably an after image with are stronger at night when you are tired

My health anxiety focuses on my vision a lot. Occasionally I see strobes of light. They aren't as much flashing, but just appearing in my line of vision without completely obstructing it. I also have visual snow.

I went to the eye doctor who didn't think anything of it. He sent me to a specialist in a major city (because of my persistence) and they did a million tests on me. Conclusion was: I'm fine.

    Hi there
I get this often when I am stressed and it can be a form of ocular migraine headache. Basically it is as if you have stared at a camera flash and you get visual auras. Can be really scary at first, but if you sit calmly with your eyes closed or in a darkened room, the symptoms subside after a short while.
    Stay calm and be well.

I had it once in january, i went to the eye doctor, had many tests, everything totally ok.i was told flashes are normal till you dont see a lot of black dots, then that could be sign of retina damage.i saw it for the second time tjis night.when i came back from toilet and close my eyes after cca 2 minutes i saw in one eye a flash..like from the lighthouse...no other problems so i guess it is normal as one get older..
