Breast / armpit lump feels rubbery worried

    Hi

I had a baby four months ago and I'm 33 I did a breast exam two months ago and noticed this lump in my armpit top of breast I mentioned it to the doc at the time and she said it just felt glandular or something but I had to go back docs yesterday for blood pressure so I mentioned that it was still there and I could go straight to it, feels like a small line of fatty tissue / rubbery lump I can slightly move it but not much, anyway more doc said she will refer me to the breast clinic and they can have a look she said possible lipoma and 99% sure it's nothing but with my health anxiety that means nothing I'm worried sick :((((

Any advice would be appreciated xx

Hello, congratulations on your new baby and sorry you are having these worries to deal with! I can SO sympathise, I have had countless breast lumps over the years that have all turned out to be harmless - although of course in my mind every single one of them was cancer. Some of them were cysts that grew and were drained, some have stayed the same size and I have learnt not to worry about them once the breast clinic told me they were harmless. "A rubbery lump that you can slightly move" - that sounds exactly like most of mine and before each referral my GP said he was so sure it was nothing to worry about but to let the specialists have a look anyway and decide whether anything needed to be done about it. I can remember him telling me that did NOT mean that he thought anything was sinister, just that harmless lumps were sometimes treated or removed, too, and that he would prefer the specialist to decide on that. Your GP sounds exactly like mine - 99% sure it is nothing to worry about but referring you anyway for the specialist to decide on management of your harmless lump.

By the way, once you are referred, don't panic when your appointment comes through really quickly, OK? It does not mean that they think your case is urgent. It used to frighten the living daylights out of me, getting an appointment within days. It is just the way breast clinics operate these days, they are really efficient and well run. Most of them are 'one-stop clinics', so you will be seen, examined and getting your results all in the same appointment.

I hope I have been able to reassure you a little - I know our imagination runs away with us when it comes to breasts and lumps - it is inevitable - but it truly does sound as though your lump is nothing to worry about. Best wishes from Annie

    Hi

This is just a courtesy reply to let you know that your post was moved from its original place to a sub-forum that is more relevant to your problem.

This is nothing personal - it just enables us to keep posts about the same problems in the relevant forums so other members with any experience with the issues can find them more easily.

Again, I understand you - I have gone privately on occasions for other medical issues - it does reassure you to be able to see a consultant and you are of course generally seen sooner. However, as far as breast clinics go, in my view you really cannot fault the NHS ones - the standard of care is very high and they have all the latest equipment and diagnostic tools. Breast cancer is so high profile these days - they cannot afford to get it wrong and they make damn sure they don't. Let us know how you get on - I will lay my money on you boosting their already extremely high rate of ladies who are perfectly well! Hugs from Annie
