    Buttock and rectal pain

Hi. Just wondering if anyone ever gets buttock and or rectal pain with IBS?

I had a small non cancerous tumour removed from lower rectum in April with follow ups so far being ok via sigmoidoscopy.

problem is that I am having bad rectum ache and shooting pain along with buttock hip and leg pain on the right side.

Rationally speaking could the pain be psychosymatic as I constantly dwell on this thinking it must be cancer but I havent lost weight or passed much blood.

I know reassurance seeking is wrong but can anyone please help?

It is a symptom of ibs but since you have had other problems there then it might be wise to mention it to your doctor for reassurance.

Thank you for replying. I am under a specialist and due to go back for a further scope soon just very worried despite him saying it is fine.

I have a stressful job so perhaps may be worsening symptoms. Despite him saying it wasnt cancer but a tumour I cannot get it out of my head.

Yes, it is a symptom of IBS. I frequently have it. A sharp, shooting pain up the bottom...not nice.

How often do you get it Debs? Have had it all morning today along with aching inside and in buttocks.

So utterly fed up that I am having to see specialist tomorrow and also start amytriptiline to try help.

    Hey!

So sorry I missed this post, hun.

I get it periodically, thankfully not too often, but every time I get a flare up of my IBS. I always know when I am going to have it, as my stomach bloats up like a basketball, I get cramping pains, and then - usually when I go to sit down - I get the sharp, shooting/stabbing pain up my back passage (sorry to be so descriptive!)

It has a posh latin name - proctalgia fugax - and is typical in IBS sufferers, unfortunately (such a glamorous condition )

As soon as my IBS settles, it goes away again. I think that constipation can also create this kind of pain up the bottom, again the IBS link. x

    Hi Alwaysworied,

I get this as well. Some periods it can be daily for an extended period. It can also be caused from hemorrhoids (external or internal). If you have had scopes done then I wouldn't worry about it. Bowel pain is fickle and usually the ones that are painful are the ones not to worry about. Its the silent cancer that strikes hard, but you have been tested for that. Plus bowel cancers take many years to develop so now that you are being tested you are in good hands.

One thing that has helped my IBS or rectal pain the most is seeing an Osteopath. Not sure that is an option for you.
