    Unhappy Constant blockage in throat

Hi everyone. Is there anyone who can help me as I am utterly desperate. I am not new to anxiety problems as I have suffered for the last ten years on and off, but this is the worst I have ever felt. It started about six weeks ago when I felt as though I had a blockage in my throat. I tried coughing but nothing would clear. I have suffered from globus (lump in the throat) before, but this was nothing like that, more like a frog in your throat, but a dry feeling - no mucus. It's left me constantly coughing trying to clear this blockage. Worst still, whenever I eat or drink, it makes it much worse and now I start panicking whenever I'm about to do either. I'm almost scared to eat or drink. It shows no sign of getting any better and now I'm having panic attacks every day. Sometimes I can calm it down by doing something to try and take my mind off of it, but the feeling never goes away. It's taken over my life and I'm really scared. I'm on my own which I know makes everything ten times worse; I guess that's what's made me sit down and write this tonight. If there's anyone who has had similar issues or can help, please please let me know.

Hello, goodness i read your post as a lurker, and thought 'did i write that subconsciously' so joined to reply.

I have exactly the same feeling, it started last August, due to health /and anxiety/ and infection from dental treatment and antibiotics, but has gradually taken over my life...

I have had blood tests one after another ,specialist hospital appointments, but have panic attacks going to different places so that doesn't help!going to yet another different one next week...and still they don't know why i am like this, they thought it was dry mouth sjorgens syndrome eventually, but i KNOW much of it stems from me feeling like i am choking, all the time and trying to clear my throat...its worse with anxiety and when i rest...but is that because i am thinking its going to happen?.... i cannot eat without drinking water and false saliva spray, but then its only soup..lost 3 stone now.

Been prescribed anti depressants but the first ones i was so allergic to caused even more of a dry mouth/throat i ended up in A&E, been prescribed more , prozac and then diazepam, but daren't take either, for fear of the swallowing panic attack ..

It also makes my mouth feel like velcro and tongue touching roof of mouth ...i am so fed up, Argh!!!! happening now, as i am writing this .....see its thinking about it....so if there is someone out there who has a cure can you let us know as my house has more potions in it than a local chemist !!!

    Re: Constant blockage in throat

    Hi there,
Noticed this 2 nights ago and still got it. No hoarseness, no cough , no pain in swallowing or chewing just that feeling of food or hair or foreign body stuck in my throat. As I can't contain my curiosity I palpated the posterior part of my right tonsil area and felt a rather bony projection but no pain. on the left it's just smooth. I gargled with Apple Cider Vinegar to moisten the area , it helped but not 100%. I'm a GERD sufferer, tried to lose some weight by taking hcg oral drops for about a month but to no avail just lost 2 kilos and gained lots of illnesses. I even suffered severe abdominal pain and I can't find a good position in bed. When I went to brush my teeth I spat and there's blood scared it could be bleeding ulcers, but it healed on its own. Only left with this throat issues. Hope we will be healed soon. All I need now is a miracle. I believe in the power of positive thinking.
    Hugs to all

I have this exact same problem and was told it's anxiety causing throat spasms when I eat and drink.

Colin and Diamond - this both sounds like symptoms of GERD. I have a lot of these myself, its reassuring to know that I am not alone. It will all turn out fine if we can just stop worrying.
