    Tongue twitching constantly at rest.

Hi again, Health Anxiety is still getting me down, and as I seem to get over one symptom, another one crops up that I haven't noticed because of the previous. As comes with anxiety twitching does too, but recently I noticed my tongue constantly twitches at a resting position. I have a terrible ALS fear and this is one of the symptoms that goes a long with it. The "twitching" occurs both when stretched out (this is apparently very common and normal) and when at a rest with just my mouth wide open. The twitching as I would describe it would be jerky movements like contractions and some tiny twitching underneath.

It goes on constantly while I'm looking at it in the mirror, but I cannot feel it at all.

Looking for some helpful advice as to what to do in this situation. Very worried about this.

See your doctor. We aren't able to give medical advice on here, despite all the collective googling we're just not medically trained. However, the most common cause of twitchjng is BFS, BFS is strongly associated with anxiety, you're posting on an anxiety board.

But with respect to ALS, in ALS twitching comes after obvious clinical weakness (so of the tongue would come after you'd developed severe speaking difficulties), and onset in the mouth is rare. So rare, in fact, that in a piece written for the BFS site by the leading professor specialising in ALS in the US, he states that he has never seen it in all his decades of treating ALS patients.

Thanks for the response, I intend to post on the BFS forums to see if people have similar experiences. I've been gripped by an ALS fear for a couple of months now. I haven't had any clinical weakness, nor slurred speech and difficulty swallowing so I assume it's just a case of BFS or heightened anxiety.

My tongue jerks and moves at rest, not like the people who have ALS describe it as worms constantly moving under the skin, I get the odd small movement at rest every 10 seconds or so, but it isn't like my tongue is electrified.

    Thanks again for your response.
