Coping with anxiety day by day

I suffered with severe anxiety and panic attacks since the age of 22, I'm now 40. Over the years I've had counselling, was prescribed bromazepam by a private doctor which helped, then put on anti-depressants by my NHS GP, which in my opinion did nothing to help. Am now taking Diazepam which really help but my GP will not prescribe so I buy them from someone I met through another forum. Has anyone else resorted to medication not from GP, and did it help?

Have only taken prescribed medication. I assume you know that diazepam is very addictive and should only be taken for a matter of a few weeks? I am saying this only because I had a terrible time stopping it after my doctor had prescribed it for a few months. I would go back to the doctor and see what alternatives he can offer to help.
