What is the optimum dose of Venlafaxine for anxiety?

Up until September last year I had been on 150mg of venlafaxine daily.

I had a bit of an anxiety meltdown (I have health anxiety) and my meds were increased to 225mg daily.

After a couple of weeks I felt much better but lately have been really obsessing again to the point where I am thinking about it all the time.

I understand that up to 150mg venlafaxine works on the serotonin and above that dose it works in both serotonin and norepinephrine which is better for the treatment of anxiety (rather than depression, I'm not depressed).

I'm seeing my doc on Tues so am wondering if my meds need increasing again - is there an optimum dose of venlafaxine for anxiety?

Hi im not sure if a Gp can prescribe a higher dose of venlafaxine than 225mg? I know a physc can tho andI think you can go up 300mg, have a word with your Gp and see what they suggest, they might beable to add something in with the ven to help with the anxiety or they could transfer you to see a physc X

there are 2 types of venlafaxine....the modified release and the general release....the modified release max dose is 225mg, the general release can be up to 300mg but in split doses through the day. Hope that helps

I don't know every reason...but I know that's the maximum dose recommended in bnf. It's to do with increased risk of things...like any medication they have to have a maximum dose

Best just having a chat to your doctor about it....they are the professionals!
