    Hi Bambambers

Yes, I have had hypnotherapy for anxiety, panic attacks and social phobia and found it extremely beneficial. I would definitely recommend it.

The important point is to find someone from a professional register. You could try either of these:

    British Institute of Hypnotherapists

Association of Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy

I also know many of the therapist on the Uncommon Knowledge Hypnotherapy Register. I have known the two therapist who run their own clinic and also train other hypnotherapists for a couple of years now and would recommend them if that's your area of the country.

However, another important point to make is that it is vital to get on and feel comfortable, whichever therapist you see. The therapist I saw was brilliant and my social phobia is much improved.

I'd recommend giving it a go. Most hypnotherapists also offer a free initial assessment to see whether you would want to work with that person.

    Hope this helps.

I have found hypnotherapy to be very beneficial.

I think that you need to go in there with a clear picture as to what you want to get out of it and tell yourself that you are going to beat it.

Also you must believe that it is going to work.

I just picked one out of the phone book and was very lucky with the first pick.

    Hi desi,

I actually live on the NSW/VIC border so I can't help you with one in Sydney.

Search on the web for the Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists. This will give you a list of names and contact details.

Whilst searching for a qualified hypnotherapist this Overcoming Fear of Driving hypnosis download could help.

I've used several of the downloads from this site and found them helpful.

    Re: hypnotherapy??????

hi peach good to see someone else from sydney. i have looked into hypnotherapy over the last few weeks and it can help with a lot of things. The only thing that has stopped me going already is that you cannot claim any money back through medicare and i was told i would need 3 to 4 visits and these are around $100 or more depending on where you go. this is why i would love to find someone that has used hypnotherapy for a driving fear and whether its worked. if you wish to keep in touch that would be great to have someone from sydney to talk to. desi

    Re: hypnotherapy??????

    Hi fellow Aussies,

I saw a psychologist for my anxiety and he performed the hypnotherapy. I was able to claim the visits from Medicare. This a new thing since the end of last year. Talk to your GP about it as they have to fill in a form and do a referral.
