    Pregnancy and anxiety

Are there any women on here pregnant or have been pregnant and suffered with sever anxiety?

I am a mum of 1 I had no anxiety in my first pregnancy which is quite amazing really as I suffered severe pre eclampsia and had to have my daughter premature. I was still ill for 11 weeks after and my daughter was in special care for weeks. But no. No anxiety!

The past 6months have been hell I've been diagnosed with gad, panic disorder and ocd with intrusive thoughts and I am suffering very severely with acrophobia. My life has been hell and have started to get slowly on track with my medication pregabablin. I am aloud diazepam as and when needed but haven't had to take it in over 6weeks!

So with all this going on. A pregnancy was not on the cards and I am very shocked. But I love being a mum so I'm happy.

The problem is the longer I'm pregnant the worst my anxiety is getting. I'm having daily panic attacks where I get a sudden realisation I am pregnant and how ill I got last time and end up in a panic attack. It doesn't help I have a massive phobia of hospitals due to my last pregnancy. On top of this I'm constantly anxious anyway over being pregnant.

Please tell me it gets better. I really need some positive vibes and your experiences xx

    Re: Pregnancy and anxiety

Hi i found myself unexpectedly pregnant in sept but unfortunately I suffered a miscarriage but I was shocked and scared to find out I was pregnant due to my anxiety and being on medication, venlafaxine and Diazepam when and as needed, i got an emergency appointment with my physc who kept me on my medication as it was safer for me to continue, she also referred me to the perinatal team who specialise in expectant mums with mental health problems, at my booking in appointment with the midwife she even told me I would be amazed how many women take meds during pregnancy. Anyway sadly I lost my baby which was heartbreaking but I coped at the time. 2 weeks ago I saw the perinatal physc for advice on future pregnancies and he confirmed I can stay on my meds. My son was also very poorly when he was born and spent alot of time in special care, infact I had my first ever panic attack whilst in the hospital after having him. See your Gp ASAP and ask for a referral to the perinatal team who will beable to support and advice you. Good luck XX

I had the worst anxiety and panic whilst I was pregnant with my son but it went the moment he was born so hope the same goes for you. Perhaps because you had probs last time you are subconsciously building yourself up that something will happen again. But I totally sympathise as I felt terrible and only stuck at just the one child xxxx Congratulations by the way xxx

Hi. Ive just discovered that I'm expecting also (really cant believe it as we were told that we would need ivf to ever have a baby!) Im really concerned about how I'm going to deal with it n petrified its gunna set off a panic! My medication is suppressing/controlling things to a certain degree but im still feeling very anxious. How far along are you? Snaily
