    Help with health anxiety

Hi all, I work for a TV company called Fresh One Productions and we are currently making a documentary series about health anxiety/hypochondria.

We would like to reach out to people whose health anxiety is having a detrimental effect on their lives. With the help of medical professionals we hope to help people overcome their anxieties and get on the road to recovery.

    ARE YOU A HYPOCHONDRIAC?

Do you visit the doctor on a regular basis?

Are you constantly worrying about your health to the point that it is affecting your day to day life?

Are you always looking up symptoms on the internet, trying to self-diagnose?

If this sounds like you or someone you know, get in touch with us today. We want to offer HELP.

    Please email health@freshone.tv or call 020 3375 5196

    Thank you.

Looks like a Jessen-free zone so maybe an alternative slant to C4's much awaited House of Hypochondriacs?

I read that this was one of 3 hour long shows newly commissioned by Channel 4 but don't know when it will actually air. I think that Dr Jessen will be involved though...and also a team of medical "experts".

    Can't wait..

    Re: Help with health anxiety

Obviously not aired yet but won't help our cause much if anything our GP's will keep putting most things down as anxiety, as they often do.

House of Hypochondriacs w/t ( 1×60’) -Of the annual £100billion spent on the NHS, an estimated £2billion is spent on hypochondriacs. Dr Christian Jessen will put two hypochondriacs to work in the NHS in the hope of transforming them into healthcare assets. The rise in hypochondria, or health anxiety as it is now medically known, is linked to the ease of access of ‘Dr Google’, leading people to self-diagnose and demand treatment and scans for an array of ailments they don’t actually have. Not only are their lives dominated by their anxiety but those of their families are sorely tested as well. The show will see the two hypochondriacs undergo exposure therapy as they face their fears working for the NHS. They will come face to face with a variety of situations, from GP surgeries to A+E and specialist hospital wards, the hypochondriacs will witness the pressure they put the NHS under with the aim of improving their condition.

Argh God, just more trash TV then. Aside from guilt tripping people into seeing all the money they waste in the public sector, and let's remember how much of that is wasted by people who don't have a mental health problem, I wonder if anyone will actually look at why people are struggling like this...The NHS itself? Will anyone be talking about the failure to deliver adequate therapy within the IAPT framework? Or is it just more so called public awareness to make you feel bad?

Good spot on linking Fresh One to this, Ricardo.

Isn't it funny how the whole system is against these types of exposures? I wonder why? Two very carefully selected people?

    Re: Help with health anxiety

I actually got in touch with them to discuss my story further but I’m glad I game here to see this first.

Being a 'strain' on the NHS is not exactly how I see myself and if the strain on mental health within the NHS wasn't so prevalent then people would be getting the appropriate treatment instead of finding themselves in A&E or in front of a GP that doesn't understand.

There was a sign in my GP surgery last week saying that the previous month, there were 96 missed appointments...now tell me again who is a strain on my GP surgery?!

Why can't someone make an honest documentary to challenge the ignorance that surrounds anxiety instead of shaming people and making us look like scroungers who enjoy spending our lives being crippled by debilitating anxiety!
