CBT4PANIC Professional Online CBT Treatment Plan for Panic Disorder & Agoraphobia

In over 16 years online, No More Panic has never recommended any of the so called online ‘miracle-cures’ for anxiety.

What we have always recommended is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) because it is clinically proven to be very effective and is the treatment of choice for the majority of health organisations worldwide. In the UK the National Institute for health and Care Excellence guidelines (N.I.C.E) recommends CBT for most anxiety and mood disorders.

Unfortunately there are very long waiting lists for CBT therapists and we can’t guarantee that the particular CBT therapist a GP may allocate to you will be right for you.

A while ago we were given the chance to test out an online CBT programme and many members of NMP found it extremely helpful. You can read many of posts about CBT4PANIC here ……

We believe that CBT4PANIC is a viable option to face to face therapy. It was created by professional CBT therapists and accredited psychotherapists and it stays faithful to the CBT treatment plan for anxiety and panic disorder used world wide.

The programme is once again completely FREE!

    Nic,

What about the free versions of CCBT that are endorsed by the NHS & NICE? These are free or free where registered to a GP practice.

    http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/online-...roduction.aspx

I think you should also rethink your statement about waiting times as that is not strictly true thesedays with IAPT in play and from some of us on here. In my city it is 3 months for CBT for instance but for some it is still 12+ months which is pretty disgraceful now there is the IAPT framework which only came in to reduce those waiting times. Another NHS governance failure really.

I think the programmes endorsed by the NHS themselves should be promoted on here as they have been obviously reviewed by suitably trained individuals.

There are more documented on the NICE website. I can't remember whether there was any charging.

The waiting times are still long from my experience and as you say some wait up to 12 months so the statement is not false.

I have no problem with advertising any treatment that is available and now you have given the links people can take a look at them too.

I also found it helpful, even though I don't suffer from panic disorder. Robin knows his stuff and makes it very easy to understand and practise. I'm not familiar with the ones Terry is suggesting but if they're recommended by the NHS, they'd be worth a go.

Re: CBT4PANIC Professional Online CBT Treatment Plan for Panic Disorder & Agoraphobia

Reading the CBT4PANIC site reveals some good stuff. For instance, it claims not to be interested in the exposure route that many of us are subjected to under IAPT therapists who seem to offer little in the way of real CBT. This one seems to aim more for what CBT was actually created to do, retrain how you view your thoughts, prove to yourself via use of Behavioural Experiments (these can be a bit of an exposure as well though but not to overcome but to test a belief) and I can a screenshot about how our thoughts work which is more than IAPT therapists often seem to be explaining. I can remember my therapist saying "what can you do to create anxiety to test it?" and my response being "simply to wake up as I've got it constantly no stop all day long". In actual fact in performing a Behavioural Experiment you would end up raising it through doing something else but otherwise I felt that was a bit poor so why bother aiming for the exposure route? It's tricky because if you can learn to tolerate higher levels of anxierty from exposures, you will likely find the lower level stuff go away but it doesn't seem to be a given. I just stayed anxious, just not quite as bad.

So, it looks like it aims to tackle the Cognitive Restructuring element which I understand is the large second stage in CBT. I never had any of that in my therapy at all.

It also has a Mindfulness element which will be very useful. What is that like? If you look them both up on their main websites Robin Hall can be seen to have practiced Mindfulness for 25 years which is very encouraging and the other person studied at the Oxford Mindfulness Centre which along with Bangor Uni is pretty much as good as it gets in the UK for this area. So, they should be too a high standard but with it being more of an addition I wouldn't expect it to be reaching towards MBCT.

In case its any use to those who leave positive reviews (or maybe those with questions about it?) when I Googled him to understand his background I noticed he had set up a YouTube page for it but its got no comments right now.

I don't know how this compares to one such as Fearfighter. I would say be careful with Fearfighter though because if you go private its actually quite pricey. Both offer remote support based on the top tier product and Fearfighter seems to offer a suppport work if you are GP referred or pay for the full package. I don't know who that support worker is and how they compared to the guys behind CBT4PANIC though.

Something I have seen posted across various threads is how this is aimed at panic. So, how does it work for anxiety issues? I can see a screenshot explaining negative thinking so that could be beneficial to anyone so does the problem lend itself to anxiety disorders as well?

In case its any use to those leaving positive reviews (or many people with questions about it) when I Googled him to understand his background, I did notice he has recently set up a YouTube page for this product but it has no comments at this stage.
