Can IBS cramps be severe? What meds do people take for them?

I am having a flare up of IBS............... started Thursday and is ok in morning but gradually gets worse as the day goes on after meals. I bloat out and get cramps (which move about all over my abdomen) and backache............. on a scale of 10 they are around a 7. Went to the local walk in centre last night who told me to take buscopan and painkillers...........

Hi, yeah I've been doubled up with them a few times. They can be crippling.
Buscopan and painkillers is what I'd do. Plus a hot water bottle, a chamomile tea if you can stomach it and bed rest if you can

I've had cramps a lot lately. Plus dull aches and backache. Not sure if the back ache is IBS related or just stiffness but it probably is. I have lower tummy pain too. All this is different from what I used to get with my IBS, but people say symptoms can change/get worse and especially as you get older. I'd try the Buscopan, see if it helps and painkillers too. I'm going to try peppermint oil capsules to see if they help me.
