    If anyone does read that link, have a read of this thread where a former member was asking about this because the studies in question made NO link whatsoever from what they were saying and merely made an observation without making a true connection:

    I was gonna say...... the article the OP links to borders on hysteria, no medication is without risk.

    Here in the UK doctors are well aware of the risks associated with benzodiazepines and generally are very strict with prescribing them. The chances are most people being prescribed Valium or a similar drug is only being given a low dose for a short time; 2 weeks maximum. I would guess those being given higher doses or for extended periods are likely to have more severe illness that is resistant to other treatments and needs to be treated this way. It is a risk vs reward judgement.

    My own experience is tapering off nearly 2 years Lorazepam usage was actually easier than coming off the supposedly non-addictive antidepressant called Venlafaxine.
