    Exclamation Please help

I wonder if anyone could please help me..
I'm going out of my mind. I have been suffering health anxiety for a few months now ever since I started getting heart flutters. I have had a 24 hour ecg & been told I am fine but since then I have been on a rollercoaster of anxiety-related symptoms. I won't go in to all of them as the list is too long but the most recent symptom I have been told is anxiety is a feeling of a lump in my throat, a popping like sound when swallowing (doesn't happen when drinking or eating) but this has been going on for a few weeks, even when I am not feeling particularly anxious. My throat is also dry & does feel sore at times. I have also started belching in my throat like little bubbles in my throat which sometimes clears the lump feeling but it comes back. The tightening sensation in my throat & feeling of a lump comes & goes, alternating in intensity & sensation. It does generally get worse as the day goes on & when I am focused on/noticing it. However I am aware of it during the day too. I am so scared. I did mention it to my GP but he didn't look at my throat, just said it was globus (feeling of a lump caused by my anxiety.) During this appointment with my GP I was actually discussing something else (as well as the health anxiety) I was worried about & only mentioned it at the end of the appointment. I have been officially diagnosed with health anxiety but please can anyone help to reassure me that may have suffered something similar with severe anxiety. I am also perimenopausal. I had hormone bloods recently to confirm this due to irregular periods. Thank you!

    Hi Shifty,

I'm sorry you are going through this. I have had HA for years and right now, my current fixation has to do with my throat as well.

For several months now I've had pain/fullness/dryness just on one side of my throat. It lessens sometimes, but of course, thinking about it. I try to tell myself that if it were truly a serious problem with my throat, it wouldn't come and go, or get worse the more I think about it. It would be constant and worsening. At least that's what helps me.

By chance, do you also have a lot of tension in your neck and upper back/shoulders?

    Sorry for invading the thread.

I also have the same stuff that you mentioned, soreness in one side of the throat and feeling of a lump. I actually did see a lump in my throat with a light and a mirror but it's probably just part of the lingual tonsils. Tomorrow I'm going to an ENT specialist to get a naso-laringoscopy done, and of course I'm going to be told it's nothing once again. I'll edit this post tomorrow with my "results".

Hoping this is the last unnecessary test I have to get done due to fears and silly symptoms.

EDIT: So sure enough, I went to the ENT, he inspected me using light and mirrors, the laringoscope that goes through the nose and all that stuff, took a look at everything and said it looked normal and was nothing serious at all and to just chill, that oral/throat cancers don't happen at my age and in people with my profile, no risk groups etc.

So, if someone ever reaches this post with the same symptoms, and if you notice a lump in your throat/mouth that seems unusual, especially if you had a tonsillectomy done in the past, do NOT freak out because there's a 99,99% chance it will be nothing serious.
