Indeed. I would imagine if it turns out they were Ukranian defences Zelensky will at a minimum have to apologise and pay compensation. Even if he doesn't care he won't want to be seen in a negative light to his allies.

One foreign diplomat was already calling Ukraine out for not admitting blame even when everyone said don't worry we still blame the Russians. But you can understand his calls for investigation first.

Ukraine and Zelensky are untouchable as regards being blamed for anything..2 needless deaths are a small price to pay in exchange for a plea for yet more sophisticated weapons. I'm not sure that the bereaved families would be quite so blase about what appears to have happened.
