    Struggling with dizziness/vertigo

I have had this problem on and off for 15 years. I have a very damaged neck and pulsitile tinnitus and have had many investigations by ent etc plus brain scans. I am also partially sighted which affects your balance as well. I have been told the dizziness /vertigo is probably due to my neck condition and my eyesight.
I had a bad spinning vertigo attack lasting a few minutes 2 weeks ago and since then I have felt unsteady all the time when walking and any sudden movement like turning or going from sitting ot standing and I get a split second dizzy feeling.
Whenever I get this and it can last months my anxiety goes through the roof as I feel too scared to be on my own or be outside in case the spinning vertigo comes back.
I am sure that my anxiety then makes the dizziness much worse as if I can get a handle on my anxiety the dizziness improves!
Just need a bit of a hand hold today as I am on my own all day today and too scared to go out on my own.

I agree! Its the anxiety that it produces in me that I would like to get a handle on as I am sure this just makes it worse.
I have had a good couple of years with long spells of not getting the vertigo and not feeling constantly unsteady so it coming back has been a nasty surprise.

I suffer with both Tinnitus and vertigo which at its worse makes me violently sick. I have never had this linked to anxiety - the attacks come out of nowhere and have never occurred when I have been anxious.

It has been investigated (including an MRI), and the specialist says I suffer with Menieres Disease - which is treatable with a GP prescribed anti-histamine. As a preventative measure I was prescribed one to be taken each morning, although I now don't bother; I can now recognise the onset of an attack and carry the tablets with me just in case.

You might want to check with your GP.

    Re: Struggling with dizziness/vertigo

I never ever feel sick with it and my hearing is superb in both ears and ent said that with menieres I would feel sick and over time it would affect my hearing in the affected ear. I only got half way through the test where they put hot then cold water in your ear to provoke dizziness as my neck siezed up so they had to abandon it and they tests with vision could not be done due to me being partially sighted so could not get definitive answer.

Are you taking plain anti histamines like you do for hay fever , none drowsy or do you mean serc tablets that are prescription only??

I have been getting dizziness for sometime now.
Occasionally I get the spinning type but everyday I am getting the off balanced light headedness even when I am sitting down.

Sometimes its like a sinking feeling, its really bothering me and making me anxious as I am constantly thinking about it which I am sure isn't helping.

I feel like I am walking sideways at times but nobody has mentioned noticing it, so is it really that bad, it certainly feels like it.
I hate going out in case I fall over.

well the last few days or week or so ive done pretty well with my anxiety even at times when i've felt light headed and literally just 20 mins ago , i turned to quick and felt a bit off balance and lightheaded so for the last 20 mins after that i have been so anxious.

its so annoying i almost forgot i had any sort of anxiety today but one little thing can just trigger it

Wow Helenclaire you have described my dizziness/vertigo perfectly! I hate that sinking feeling, I get it when I go from sitting to walking or if I am standing and looking down.
I have just had a conversation with my GP about my dizziness and he said in my case my damaged spine and my severe eye problems are the cause but even pure anxiety can make you feel dizzy as can a huge number of benign ear problems.
dmc1892 I agree totally that any dizziness/vertigo gives huge anxiety.
I too am scared when having to leave the house, the same what ifs over health hit with the what if I get vertigo when I am in public etc etc and this anxiety just makes it even worse.
